Via PS3 Fanboy, baadasssss news of another Final Fantasy XIII character.
Sazh Kalroy looks to care for a tiny chocobo/chicken critter and wears a fabulous trench coat. He also has what will probably be 2009’s greatest afro in fiction.
I’ll be interested to see whether he winds up being a good character or a massive failure. The last major black character in a Final Fantasy game was Barret from 1997’s Final Fantasy VII. He cursed a lot, had a crazy-ass gun hand and didn’t really experience a lot of growth. I hope that Mr. Kalry is a little more well-developed.
Actually, I just wanted to form a verb from “blacksploitation.”

Japan really takes racial stereotypes and put them into everything. I don’t think they realize how offensive a lot of what they do really is to some people, hence you see a lot of this:

But then again, we live in America where these stereotypes are offensive to some people and the first lines from Autobot Jazz in “Transformers” was “What’s crackin little bitches?”
Oh noes! Blackface?! Just when I thought Japanese TV couldn’t become even more of a train wreck. Is it bad, however, that I would have found the Louis Armstrong one highly entertaining if the guy wasn’t corked-up like a minstrel show?
On the bright side, I now know how to write Obama in katakana.
